NeW News!

Network of enlightened Women joined with Students For Life to stand up for Rights of the Unborn! (check out Tuesday’s State Press)

Monday—January, 22nd, 2007, was the 34th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. NeW and Students for Life built a Cemetery for the Innocents on the Student Services Lawn with over 500 white crosses to represent the 45 million babies on Saturday, February 10th.

Wednesday, January 31st, from 11:00 am—1:30 pm; we will be participating in ASU’s Organization Open House on Hayden Lawn. This is an opportunity to showcase our club and meet new people. As discussed on Monday night, we will have an activity that allows students to have a rubber-band gun shooting match with spinning targets. Kate Jordan will be actively teaching firearm safety as a preview of one of NeW's future events.

Valentine’s Day Celebration: as part of their movement the proponents of The Vagina Monologues proclaimed Valentine’s Day as “Vagina Day,” until the violence against women stops (Ensler). To counteract and celebrate the true reason of Valentine’s Day, we hope to ask a local florist to donate a number of roses so that NeW can join with the New Sexual Revolution and friends of NeW to sell the roses for $1-2 on campus; or we will get together to bake, decorate, and package heart-shaped sugar cookies and lollipops on Saturday, February 10th.

Wednesday, February 21st; The New Sexual Revolution will host Janet Smith, Chair of Life Ethics and author of Sexual Common Sense, she will speak out about the reasons for not using contraception. More details will follow.

First Week of March—Events to counter The Vagina Monologues: Educating women on why The V-Monologues are harmful to women; Writing op-eds and letters to the editors; Tabling on the mall each day (February 26—March 3); Co-hosting Dr. Jennifer Robeck Morse with the New Sexual Revolution; Passing out pamphlets which unveil the myths of The V-Monologues— This will be the biggest event that NeW has participated in, in its young history. We will need everybody’s help in networking with faculty and community members, educating students, compiling pamphlets, and giving our time to make the event with Dr. Morse a success.

For the Next Meeting - Read Chapters 1-2 of "Letters To A Young Conservative."
